Nowadays, it's called the Molokan (Lettuce)* garden. The garden in question is located at the intersection of the streets Gogol, Hacibeyov Street and R.[Rasul] Rza, and was not called Molokan by accident. In the 19th century this garden was surrounded by karavan- sarai**, at which lettuces* [Molokans], bringing goods from different districts, often stayed at. The nearest streets, lanes, and yards were dotted with cooper’s shops. In the seventies, XIX century [1870s] the authorities decided to lay out a garden in this place, but groundwater and clay soil really hampered the growth of planted trees.
* Translation mistake. Molokan is Russian for "milk-drinker" not "lettuce." The Russian word for "garden" and "lettuce" is the same — sad — which may have confused the translator.
** Motels for travelers and convoys (groups of travelers or the military) with stables for the horses.

In time, magnificent buildings were erected around the Molokan garden: the oil magnate Shibaev’s brilliant private residence, an architecturally original house of the "Tea" king of Russia Visotsky, the Mikado Theatre (theatre named Samed Vurgun), built by Haji Ashum’s son Ali Heydarov after trips to China and Japan and, at last, Haji Alekber Dadashov’s profitable houses. These buildings changed the appearance of the garden and the area.
After the establishment of the Soviet regime, the Molokan garden was renamed to the garden “9th of  January”, and then it was named after Hashim Aliyev. Now it is named Khagani.
During the post-war period the garden was reconstructed twice. The pool in a curvilinear form with the sculptural group “Three graces” began to form the basis of the architectural-landscape composition. Large blocks of natural stone serve as a pedestal for the sculptures. Though the garden is very small in its size (approximately 0,8 ha.) [2 acres], it is cozy enough and a favorite rest-place for most of Baku citizens.
